DESCRIPTION Manufacturing systems represent the vast majority of most industrial capital. For the management and the design of such systems, integrated approaches are becoming an important issue attracting researchers from reliability & maintenance as well as the operational research communities. Recently, several studies demonstrated indeed the benefit of joint decision on production and maintenance planning. In addition to maintenance and production activities, other studies considered also quality control. Many analytical and simulation models have been proposed to support joint decision making. There are however many important areas of manufacturing systems decision making that are not studied or are insufficiently covered.
