Overview: Students who have experienced school and campus shootings, survivors of sexual assault, and veterans returning from military combat have at least one thing in common: exposure to trauma. Students who have been exposed to trauma are at an increased risk for academic, social, and emotional problems and may also experience anxiety, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Some studies even show a correlation between trauma exposure and lower GPA, higher number of absences from school, and lower high school graduation rates.
