Description:
Congenital cytomegalovirus infection causes serious disease in newborn infants. In fact, it is the most important infectious disease that causes disabilities in infants in the United States. The main disability caused by congenital CMV is hearing loss. Other disabilities include cerebral palsy, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, microcephaly, seizures. CMV is not common knowledge unlike Zika virus, which is rare compared to CMV. While CMV causes more problems in newborns than down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome and neural tube defect - combined, testing is not offered and rarely discussed.Deadline for abstracts/proposals : 12th June 2018
