The Arts and Humanities Division (AHRD) of ATINER is organizing A Stream on Teaching and Researching Ancient Philosophy in the Contemporary World, 3-6 January 2018, Athens, Greece as part of the 5th Annual International Conference on Humanities & Arts in a Global World sponsored by the Athens Journal of Humanities & Arts. The aim of the stream is to bring together academics and researchers from all areas of Philosophy, Education and Humanities. Ancient Philosophy is one of the fundamental basis of our culture. Over twenty five hundred years ago some people began to use their reasoning in a different way so as to try to discover the way nature works and how to live their lives in order to find happiness and create a better society. All those questions and the very same way of thinking are still present in our contemporary world, but societies and technology have changed so much and so quickly that those ancient thoughts could seem strange and remote to our current mentality. Nevertheless, the first philosophers can help us understand several aspects of our lives, so they deserve to be taught and studied. The aim of the streamis to help participants enhance their way of imparting knowledge by exchanging ideas about different approaches in teaching and researching Ancient Philosophy in our globalised world and multicultural societies. Areas of interest include (but are not confined to): Ancient Philosophy in the 21st Century Non-Western Ancient Philosophy How to teach Ancient Philosophy today Researching methods in Ancient Philosophy Ancient Philosophy and contemporary science Greek Philosophy in the contemporary world Ancient ethics and politics today Promoting the study of Ancient Philosophy in the 21st Century Students' expectations on Ancient Philosophy New approaches and perspectives on Ancient Philosophy Fee structure information is available on http://www.atiner.gr/2018fees. Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, an Athens educational walking tour, and an one-day visit to Delphi. The organizing and hosting of International Conferences and Symposiums, the carrying out of Research, and the production of Publications are the basic activities of ATINER. Since 1995, ATINER has organized more than 400 International Conferences and other events, and has published close to 200 books. In 2012, the Association launched a series of conference paper publications (click here), and at the beginning of 2014, it introduced its own series of Journals (click here). Academically, the Association is organized into seven Divisions and 37 Units. Each Unit organizes at least an Annual International Conference, and may also undertake various small and large research projects.
